India has an abundance of non-depleting and eco-friendly renewable energy resources. The scientific community is focusing priority on harnessing the tremendous potential of renewable energy resources.
India is the only country to have a dedicated Ministry for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). This organization has envisaged a large programme to deploy renewable energy products and systems. The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources has been implementing comprehensive programmes for the development and utilization of various renewable energy sources.
As against the estimated 80,000 MW renewable energy based potential, so far only 6000 MW installed capacity has been realized. With a present capacity of 5% of the Nation’s total competence, there’s vast opportunity for exploitation of these energy sources. Estimates project to achieve up to 10% of the additional installed capacity by the year 2012.
